Food Dilemma

75% of Sarawak agricultural land is dedicated to oil palm plantations instead of consumer food crop. This leaves very little land to cater future food demand. The dependency for food to a foreign source has compromised Sarawak food
security.

Food can be produced in the city and distributed directly to consumers and vendors. This will reduce food miles
and ensure the freshness of food produce. On top of decreasing transportation carbon footprint, we are also able to preserve our pristine rainforests.

Temple of Food

A vertical food museum punctures through the whole building showcasing all facets of a vertical farm.

The museum offers a wide range of food and agricultural related content to educate the future generation. Also poised to be the Tallest Vertical Museum in the World (51.2m)

Farms in the Sky

Production of food produce can be multi-fold in order to optimize productivity. The growth period can be shortened and crop planting patterns can be intensified. Nutrient composition will be tailored to achieve the best flavor profile, texture, and freshness.

Conventional farming deploys intense resources to farm very little produce. Precision farming grows on minimal resources to maximize yield, in a controlled farming environment. This
resources are harvested and reused in-situ facility.

Automated Farm

Modern farmers will be employed to operate the farm on system level. While an array of sensors, timers, and droids are physically farming the crops. Fresh
harvest will be distributed imminently via multiple delivery channels, drive thru, drone & e-rider.

Food produce can now be consumed the same day they get harvested. This
will ensure no space is needed for storage, further reducing carbon footprint.

We explore the potential of building a resilient and self-sustaining countryside starting from a dwelling. This Agricultural Revolution 4.0 puts the house at the center stage of a self-sufficient household.

Traditional Market

Penang market district archetype

The evolution of market in Penang can be appreciated from its historical narrative. It was informal and disorganised, but very vibrant and celebrated by the community. As market trading moved into specialised structures, the market adopted a duality of a complex and a covered trading plaza. The ever expanding market trading and its communal role, spilled over to adjacent shophouses and in turn a market district emerged.

Market Reimagined

Civic structure empowering community

The next chapter of Penang market will be more than just a trading complex. The market is envisioned to embody the idea of a community hub with intangible cultural significance on top of its traditional role. This unorthodox approach is not foreign to Penang, as it originated from Penangite’s cultural, demographic and social norm. The logical evolution of a complex with a civic stature like a market, shall be democratic and inclusive in nature. It must be informed by past traditions, and at the same time spearheading towards future challenges.
